There is a lot of press indicating that the much loved SQL*Plus will soon disappear to be replaced with the web-based iSQLPlus, but its nice to know that the Oracle developers are still adding little bits of functionality to it
You can now issue "SQLPLUS -L", the switch indicates that the you only get a single attempt for the username and password. This is a nice thing to have for scripted SQL Plus sessions, so that in the event the password is rejected, your script will not simply hang waiting for a second or third attempt that never comes.
There is also a new substitution parameter which shows you current connection, so you can issue (for example)
SQL> SET SQLPROMPT '&_CONNECT_IDENTIFIER > ' MYDB>
